The Day When… We Were Stranded without any money In Morocco
It was mid-March 2011, as well as it was already hot at 9 am at the Casablanca Airport. We had been in Morocco for 3 weeks as well as were more than prepared to head to our next country, Egypt. We were prepared as well as had whatever in order for our flight.
We were at the flight terminal early, most likely earlier than we needed to be. We had spent every last Moroccan Dirham on our taxi to the airport, however we figured there would be an ATM machine waiting on us when we arrived. To our surprise, there wasn’t. The terminal was so little that there was only one shop as well as a bathroom. So, there we sat, hungry, thirsty as well as bored.
We didn’t want to go with customs any type of earlier than we had to, since we understood there would be even less to do on the other side! With about an hour before our flight was to take off, I decided to inspect the departure board. I’m not sure why we waited so long to check, we usually show up at the airport, look at the board as well as get situated close to where our entrance is.
Our flight number wasn’t on the list.
We asked around as well as it turned out that there were 2 terminals at this Casablanca flight terminal as well as we were at the wrong one! Panicked, as well as money-less, we were trying to figure out exactly how to get to the other terminal, which was about 30 mins away. The shuttle bus had just left and wouldn’t be back for one more 1/2 hour. There were no taxis or vehicles in sight, as well as even if there were, we had no money!
So, what did we do? Am fugit.
To this day, I still laugh when I keep in mind the sight of Nick running down the highway. He had his backpack on the trolley, was running as quick as his legs would go as well as then suddenly, the backpack fell off of the cart. With one strap still connected he dragged it for a couple of minutes, ran it over with the trolley, before choosing it up as well as taking off again. All while frantically yelling back at me to hurry up – as I’m bent over dying of laughter.
I have no concept why he opted for the trolley, however it made the situation more hilarious for me, so I’m pleased he did!
Loading up the trolley, get prepared to run
We were rather the sight that day. A couple of foreigners sprinting for about 20 minutes down the highway, sweating, dropping our bags as well as tripping over things. We were so rushed as well as panicked it was ridiculous!
In the end we made it to the right terminal as well as inspected in just as the airplane was about to leave for Cairo. note to self as well as readers: do not show up at the flight terminal without any type of money as well as always inspect which terminal your airplane leaves from!
Phew, we made it! Nick getting on the airplane to Cairo
Have you ever made a stupid error at the airport, please tell us below!
